Q&A with ISI Worlds Benefit Show Star, Mariah Bell

ISI caught up with 2017 U.S. national bronze medalist Mariah Bell to get to know her better in preparation for her visit with us during ISI World Recreational Team Championships.

As star of  the ISI Benefit Show during Worlds week, Mariah will take to the ice at 7 p.m.  Friday, July 21  at The RINKS – Anaheim ICE. She will also assist her coach, Rafael Arutyunyan, in leading skater clinics on Thursday, July 20, at The RINKS – Lakewood ICE.

Here’s what she had to say about:

Working with Rafael Arutyunyan: “Working with Rafael Arutyunyan is such an honor. He pushes me very hard and expects nothing less than my best! He has helped me improve my technique and consistency of my elements.”

Pre-Competition Stress Relief: “To calm my nerves before a competition, I like to spend some time with my family enjoying the area wherever we are. I also calm my nerves by watching some of my favorite shows on my iPad or TV.”

Hardest Maneuver to Master: “The hardest thing for me to learn in skating was the triple loop; it was the last triple I got. I am constantly trying to learn more and evolve my skating, so there is always something new I am working on and challenging myself with.”

Life-Long Lessons: “Skating has taught me countless life lessons — from time management to perseverance to a strong work ethic. It has helped shape me into the person I am off the ice, and I am lucky to learn so much from living my passion and following my dreams every day.”

Her Parents Support: “My parents are the best supporters that I could ever ask for. They have given up so much to always give me the best opportunities to succeed while chasing my dreams. They are always there when I need them, to motivate me and to support me throughout my skating career.”

Her Daily Schedule: “My day starts around 7:15 a.m.; my first session is 9:20 a.m. and my second and third sessions are 12:40 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. After my on-ice time, I spend at least an hour and a half in the gym, working on my strength, cardio and recovery.”

Unwinding: “To unwind at the end of the day, I love to walk or spend a little time on the beach, watch TV, spend time with my boyfriend and FaceTime my family.”
